There are many issues that important and have been in the past years that are currently still happening one being between the Native Americans and the federal government this would be fight for their land, medical and the educational services for the tribal members.

The Native Americans in the 1800’s gave most of their land to the federal government for exchange in promise that they could remain on the reservation land and have the trust upheld. The federal government hasn’t been trustworthy with their responsibilities so far.

The trust of the federal responsibility has the legal commitment made by the United States government to the Indian tribes where the Indian lands were ceded to the U.S. The commitment they made is codified in federal law, executive orders, judicial opinions, treaties, and the international doctrine. It can also be divided into three obligations: The protection of the Indian trust lands, protection of the tribal self-governance, and provision of basic social, educational and medical services for each of the tribal members. The promises have not been withheld the U.S. government has failed to follow through with appropriations to match the obligations. (National Congress of American Indians, 2005).

The U.S Commission on Civil Rights has done a study and it has been reported there was disproportionately lower funding for the Indian services that are critical and needed, including the law enforcement, education and the health care than what there is for all of the other people that are not in the Indian race. (National Congress of American Indians, 2005). This being said the American Indians do not believe that the government has been honest with them and not helping with what they want.
