) In death of a salesman, each major character seems to want to find happiness. Biff is always looking for the truth and learning from his failures. Willy and Happy however, don’t like to face the truth. Linda uses Willy as a way out of debt. Biff becomes fed up with Willy because he is always leading everyone to believe things that aren’t true. Biff wants to stop living in this fake world that Willy has created. Happy is satisfied with his life and wants to follow Willy’s idea of success. Linda only wanted her husband to be happy and not to think so low of himself and his life.

2) Willy believes that being well liked by everyone is the key to success. He yearns to feel loved both in his personal life and his professional life. This is not true because it depends on the type of person you are. Willy still became a failure in all of his relationships, because of his mindset. He is extremely vulnerable to others’ opinions of himself. This leaves him in friendships that are manipulative and lead him down the wrong path. Willy also had an affair, which shows his betrayal towards his family. As a salesman, Willy doesn’t find any success because he tries so hard to get his customers to like him that they see him as a phony and a fake. All Willy wanted was to live up to his own dreams and be a salesman like his father, when he began to see failure in this, he decided to kill himself.
