The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has prepared this publication on the occasion of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao’s visit to ECLAC headquarters, in order to provide current information on trade and investment in Latin America and the Caribbean and the People’s Republic of China, as well as contribute to the discussion on the current signi cance and future implications of closer ties with China and the Asia-Paci c region for regional development. In recent decades, China —along with Asia’s other emerging economies— has become a key factor in understanding globalization trends and perspectives.
