Test anxiety can cause a person to blank out, freeze up, zone out, and feel nervous to the point that a person cannot respond to questions on the test when they knew the answers the night before the test. Some nervous anticipation can help a person stay at peak performance during a test. Test anxiety can interfere with a person’s concentration or performance before a test. Test anxiety can cause tension headaches, and stomachaches. Sweating, fast heart beats and shaking is a part of test anxiety. Some people suffer from test anxiety so bad to where they feel like throwing up or passing out.
Test Anxiety Strategies
People can overcome or reduce test anxiety by going outside for a quick walk or relaxing for a few minutes. Turning off music, telephones, televisions and creating a study environment can help limit distractions and reduce test anxiety. A person should never cram in study material and should prepare by studying testing materials over time. If a person needs clarification on questions then a person should ask in advance, to reduce test anxiety. Taking a few practice tests will lessen the levels of anxiety in a person. Always think positively and keep the experience of test taking at perspective. Do not pressure yourself and try to deemphasize the importance of the test to reduce anxiety.
