ABSTRACT

Technology has developed at a tremendous rate and access to information has become very easy. This development has come up with various ethical issues in the Information Systems. Each profession has its own code of conduct, which governs how its employees relate with others in that profession and outside, in order to safeguard its reputation. This essay selects one ethical issue in Information System and gives a summary of it. It gives four technological developments that raise ethical issues and an elaboration of these ethical issues is given. The essay also gives a personal opinion about these ethical issues and their effect to people, especially in the working environment and in the crime sector. More so, it also gives proposed solutions to these ethical issues, most of them from various writers who have given theories that help reduce these ethical issues. In conclusion, the essay gives an insight on how to handle information, especially personal data that will ensure that we use information in a fruitful manner.

Ethical Issues in Information Systems

Ethics is the moral principles that govern an individual’s way of doing things. Information is a big asset to any organization and needs care in handling. All professions have their code of conduct, which depicts what people expect in its members’ behavior. Due to the easy access to the internet and the high level of computer literacy, many ethical issues face the Information Systems. Crime is one of the ethical issues involved in Information Systems since people use the information from the internet to commit crime.
