My Values, Beliefs, Clinical Gestalt with individuals, and Systems

While reading information about people, their beliefs and their values, I was educated on how they make us into who we are. We are all not the same; other people in other areas have beliefs and values that differ from mine. Even the people in my own environment have different values and beliefs. To work in the human service field, one must realize that not everyone believes in the same things and not be biased because of their beliefs, but work with them in order to understand the logic behind actions and respond accordingly to them. This field causes one to look at yourself and what you do and believe, and your environment, culture, and life experiences molded you into the person you are.

It was always in my nature to want to help others. I think I developed this early on in life while I was young and with my parents. They were so giving; they gave to the food banks, volunteered at soup kitchens, and had me and my siblings help out at the church. At the time I did not understand why we did all this work for free while other kids were out babysitting or had newspaper routes for money, but as I grew older, I started to realize some things. One day at school I lost my lunch money and could not afford to eat. A teacher gave me the money to be able to eat. I was so grateful because I did not want to be the only kid without a lunch. You know kids have a reputation to keep up. This experience made me realize that the work me and my parents did was not for free, but it was for another type of payment. I learned not everyone had what we had and I learned how lucky I was. I became so empathetic to others just from a teacher getting me lunch when I was hungry. I did not complain about the volunteer work we did again. I passed these values and beliefs on to my children...
