Judaism

Judaism is the religious faith that is practiced by the Jewish people. It is a monotheistic faith which means that they believe in one God. Their faith is based on the teachings of the Hebrew bible also known as the Tanakh, in which the Jewish people express a covenant relationship with God that was established by the people of Israel. It is believed that Judaism has been around for more than 3,000 years and came in to being in the Middle East region during the Bronze Age. Judaism is believed the oldest religion that believes in the existence and worship of one God only. Other religions such as Christianity and Islam have been influenced strongly by the texts, traditions, and values of Judaism. Judaism also has had an impact on western secular ethics and civil law. People that practice Judaism are ethnoreligous, which means a group of people unified under one common religious background. It is estimated that 0.2% of the world’s population are of the Jewish faith. In the United States and Canada alone 42% reside another 42% reside in Israel and the remainder in Europe. The Jewish faith is comprised of many different sects like Christianity is made up different sects like Catholics, Baptists, and Pentecost and so on. The three largest sects of Judaism are Orthodox Jews, Conservative Jews and Reform Jews. The differences between the three are that Orthodox Jews believe that the Torah and Jewish law are of divine origin, meaning that the Jewish laws are eternal and not to be altered and that they should be followed strictly. Conservative and Reform Jews are more liberal, with Conservative Judaism generally promoting a more "traditional" interpretation of Judaism's requirements than Reform Judaism. A typical Reform position is that Jewish law should be viewed as a set of general guidelines rather than as a set of restrictions and obligations whose observance is required of all Jews.
