Abstract

This paper explores the internet search engine Google and why it is one of the best places to work. The internet being such a powerful tool for all to use, the workers have to be able to work together in order to accomplish Google’s mission. This worldwide, international company has renowned practices in diversity. This essay will tell the beginning of the Google and how it became so popular, describe the diversity within the company, compare Google to their competitor Microsoft in regards to diversity, show the benefits of working at Google, and describe any troubles in regards to diversity within the workplace. In doing research for this paper about diversity policies within Google go above and beyond what any other company can offer their employees.

Introduction

Let us start from the beginning of the world’s most used search engine on the internet. It all started in 1995 with two Stanford University students named Larry Page and Sergey Brin. In 1996, Page and Brin develop a search engine for the Stanford servers called “Backrub”. When Backrub becomes too much for the Stanford servers, in 1997 Page and Brin decide to rename Backrub to Google. In 1998, a check for $100,000 was written by Andy Bechtolsheim the co-founder of the Sun to fund Google Inc. Google, begins to operate out of a garage in California and is named the Top 100 web sites for 1998 by PC Magazine.
