There are many views on abortion. Whether it is right or wrong, it is considered killing of a child, or just moral views this argument has been going on for years and it will continue to go on. In Soran Reader’s article, “Abortion, Killing, and Maternal Moral Authority” states that having an abortion is killing. The argument comes out to whether aborting a fetus is considered killing. Having to get an abortion is not an easy choice for a woman. A woman has to always live with the thought of “What if I did do an abortion how would my life be different then?” or the other way around. There are many reasons why a woman would consider giving up her fetus. Some examples being she was raped, or her husband is about to leave and she will not have any support raising a child on her own.

Many people have the thought of abortion being related to killing. Killing is such a negative word and when combined with abortion people automatically think that abortion must be bad. “Abortion must end the life of the fetus” (Reader, 2008). When put in words like “must end the life” it sounds like “killing” which ones back to the negative of an abortion. When a statement like the above has been said about putting an end to the life of the fetus it is like an argument of pity. “When feeling sorry for someone drives us to a position on an unrelated matter, the result is the fallacy known as “argument” from pity” (Moore & Parker, 2009). When hearing words like putting an end to a life of a fetus it makes a person feel sorry for the fetus. For some women carrying a fetus inside of them may be the cause of something bad that has happened to them. An example of that being rape. Having to carry that fetus and giving birth to the baby will be a constant reminder of the rape. Some women cannot leave with that constant reminder of the tragic day.
