How far should immigration be encouraged or discouraged in developing countries

P: Developing countries should encourage certain types of immigration.

E: Entrepreneurs, intellectuals and other highly qualified individuals who will benefit the economy should be encouraged to immigrate to this developing country. Pakistan for instance, needs more entrepreneurs who can bring in more investment into Pakistan.

A: But what use is investment when the law and order situation in the country is so unstable that it is practically impossible to run a business. A developing country also needs to improve its governance and law and order and decrease corruption. In order to do this, developing countries must also encourage education and highly qualified individuals with an expertise in public policy.

L: Experts in public policy, education, law and order as well as entrepreneurs who bring in investments into the country should therefore be encouraged to immigrate to developing countries.

Immigration in developed countries

P: Developed countries should encourage immigration of intellectuals, scientists, philosophers as well as blue collar workers.

E: Canada for instance, encourages blue collar workers such as janitors, construction workers, petrol pump attendants and others who will end up working in labour intensive jobs. Developed countries also encourage intellectuals, professors, musicians, scientists, philosophers, actors and artists to immigrate to their country.

A: Intellectuals who immigrate to a developed country contribute with their ideas and help society improve. Blue collar workers on the other hand, provide a useful service to society which may be unpleasant but it is nevertheless work that needs to be done.
