What new mom wouldn’t love a food that is easy for her young toddlers to eat? In the early 1900’s there really wasn’t much to choose from in regards to baby food and having something in the cupboard that is easy and quick was fantastic for three reasons: It was easy to prepare, it was easy to make and it was easy to clean up! You could boil it or fry it up with a little bit of fresh butter and you would have a meal that the whole family could enjoy. “This macaroni can be used every day like potatoes” is an effective statement because there were not a lot of choices for families with toddlers during this time. Pasta and potatoes are good nutritious foods that are soft enough for them to eat.

I find this advertisement funny because it mentions that their food has more flavor than potatoes. This may be true, but after hearing the ingredients listed it doesn’t sound very good! People from this time era may be a little hesitant to try it. If they were farmers it is a good chance they never had oysters; however, being farmers they do know what some of the other ingredients are and may feel comfortable trying it with familiar ingredients.

The author of this advertisement makes an emotional appeal to families with young children who also may not have a lot of money to buy fancy foods. Even today the cost of a box of pasta is cheap and it is still a quick and easy meal to make.

The picture on the ad shows a boy who is happy to have this pasta for dinner; it is a good selling point because you wouldn’t buy a box of pasta with a crying child on it. It gives the message that all kids like pasta and are happy to have it for dinner with their other favorite foods.
