Dr. John Garang, the freedom fighter from the south Sudan. He was one of the general commanders in Sudanese army, he defected from regime in Khartoum in 1983 with some his colleagues who were mainly from southern part of Sudan. The departure of Garang with other colleagues came after the government in Khartoum lead by majority of Muslims leaders announced that, everyone in the country must be Muslim. The southern part of Sudan is occupied by Christians in whom Garang and his other colleagues belong to. So they took up arm because this was unfair to the other of Sudanese who were not Muslims. They form the party called SPLA to fight the regime in Khartoum telling them that, not everyone in the country must be Muslims but a everyone has a choice or right to worship his or her own God in whatever way she or he likes. This fighting took those 21 years to recognize who is telling the right between government and rebels lead by Garang until the international community came in to negotiate the peace deal between two groups which end up fighting in 2005 in which Garang became vice president. He spent some months in office and then later died in helicopter crash on 30th of July 2005 and south Sudan became independence nation after referendum in 2007.

According to my own epitaph, Dr. John Garang, is hero because without him, everyone in the whole Sudan would now be Muslim. Secondly, his breaks away with certain groups of people from the regime lead to the independence of South Sudan, so everybody in the whole South Sudan particularly those who are alive will remember him for rest of their lives even though Garang is...
