LIFE AS A HOUSE directed by Irwin Winkler

Life as a house centers in George’s life, a man that has many different problems with his profession, his wife, his friends, his neighbors, his family and even his own house. Just like George, each person wake up everyday, some are struggling to start their life with different thoughts in their heads, sometimes they are the things that bug them even before they fall asleep at night and other times, they are the things that make them want to open their eyes and welcome the sunshine with their sweet smile. And there’s one thing common about all of them, they all started in a place they call house.

Life as a house is fragile. There are many things that can destroy a house such as storm, flood, and other natural causes just like people’s life if it’s not strong enough. In the movie, George was diagnosed with incurable cancer that will lead him to death immediately and that’s when he started living. His son was also losing it because he thought that there’s nothing for him out there so he was continuously destroying his life through drugs and the like. Even the tiniest things that life has offered can destroy us; it might be physically, emotionally, spiritually or mentally.

Life as a house is complicated. The house may look simple outside, just a big pile of stone that shelters people but it’s more complicated than that. It was given a lot of time, effort and planning before a professional can even make it; it has ups and downs starting from the draft until its finishing touches. And so is our life, we plan our life in order to have a bright future but along the way, we still encounter a lot of problems and sometimes we don’t even know what to do about it. George felt this way with his life, he was hanging by a thread he was divorced, alone and didn’t know what to do with his life. It seemed like he was alive but he’s not really living.
