Zeus, King of the Gods, and Dione, an early earth mother goddess had a daughter; they called her Aphrodite Meaning sea foam. She is the Greek goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation. The beauty of Aphrodite’s face and body was said to be perfect and with Potent sexual attractiveness, dazzling. So perfect that many gods as well as regular men enjoyed her. The beauty of this woman caused conflicts between the gods. They feared her beauty would interrupt their peace and start a war between them.

Kephisodotus was a great sculptor in the second half of the 4th century B.C. Some of his work is, Eirene (Peace) bearing the infant Ploutos (Wealth) and his son, a figure of Hermes carrying the child Dionysus.

Kephisodotus had a son named Praxiteles. Praxiteles was a great Atticizing style sculptor. Some of his work titles are, The Apollo Lyceus, The Resting Satyr or Leaning Satyr, also known as the Satyr anapauomenos, Venus of Arles and Aphrodite of Knidos.

Praxiteles full round statue of Aphrodite was one of his most famous works in the 4th century around 350 B. C. the statue became famous because of its beauty and it was the first full life sixe representation of a totally nude woman at that time. The statue showed Aphrodite as she was getting ready for her bath to restore her purity not virginity. With her clothes in her left hand and covering herself with her right hand. Praxiteles intent was for his statue Aphrodite to be appreciated from every angle but it was rejected by citizens of Kos ant they purchased his 2nd statue of Aphrodite which was clothed version. The nude statue was purchased by the people of Knidos and placed in a temple to be viewed from all sides. After seeing the statue some say Praxiteles used phryne as a model.
