Changing Jobs

When looking at my life I have always have preferred to work on the nightshift or graveyard shifts. After 19 years working on the overnight shift my husband thought I should try and get a job on days for a change and he felt that I would have more time with the family. It did happen that I was already considering that same thing so I found a job that was doing what I love to do, inventory control.

My husband and I sat down and looked at all avenues such as how much of a pay cut will I be taking to quite my current job and start another. Since I was an assistant operator of one of the high priority lines I had to physically pull pallets of all kinds of product to my line for usage, but also had to dump that product into fruit feeders and in mix tanks that were at least eye level. This took such a toll on my not just physically but mentally because I didn’t want to fail and I beat myself up more times than not. After nine years we had a decision to make so we looked at all that we pay out with my paycheck, gas prices and how many times a week or month I fill up my vehicle and what the estimated cost. Next to consider was wear and tear on my vehicle and how much it was costing a month to keep it running. I then looked at how much more time I would have to spend with my family without having to take the night off to be able to attend functions my children would have throughout the year.

There was other options I could have taken such as getting my children’s game schedules and concert schedules and then put in for those nights off to attend the functions. When looking into this I would have had a big impact on not just my job but I would have to use my vacation time to make sure I have full pay checks each week.
