Changes in Art in the 20th Century

Introduction

Art is a very dynamic subject and it keeps on changing with the change in generations and trends. A good example of a work of art and changes that happen is music, which changes to develop new genre, and one genre appeals to one generation while the same does not happen to another generation. In the same way that this happens, fine arts, which include carvings, paintings, sculptures, and others of similar nature, also keep on changing. In the 20th century, there were a lot of changes in fine arts, and different art movements have been witnessed. There are several factors that contribute to any change in history, and this happened in the 20th century as well (Walther, 2000). The century had many changes including politically, socially, and economically, and hence some of the changes in the art industry were affected by these features as well. Additionally, it is important to keep in mind that the 20th century experienced widespread changes, not only in art, but in other areas as well. This essay looks at some of the main changes in the art history and how they shaped fine arts as it is today.

Change in materials and concepts

People have traditionally argued that art is a tool used to express life. In short, art is seen as something that imitates life. Although this seems true, art could also be a tool that is used to shape life and activities in it, and hence life itself could be imitating art. For instance, when a musician makes piece of work and creates a music video, lovers of that music sometimes starts copying what they see on the music videos in terms of activities, dressing and even in behavior.
