1, what are the inputs, processing, and outputs of UPS’s package tracking system?

Input captures or collects raw data from within the organization or from its external environment. Processing converts this raw input into a meaningful form. Output transfers the processed information to the people who will use it or to the activities for which it will be used.

For the inputs, UPS starts with the scannable bar-coded label attached to a package, which contains detailed information about the sender, the destination, and when the package should arrive.

For the processing, UPS has Delivery Information Acquisition Device (DIAD) which could capture customers’ signatures along with all information they need. After transmitted to UPS’s computer, the dispatchers could download meaningful information detailedly, such as weather conditions, traffic jam, and the nearest route. Moreover, through the package tracking system, all the delivery process should be monitored underneath computer. It is convenient to supervise and re-direct immediately.

For the outputs, dispatchers could move rightly and efficiently under the high- level tech and system. It effectively decreases mistakes coming out.
