Cigarettes Should Be Banned

Cigarettes are among the leading causes of cancer and death. Smoking a cigarette not only affects the person smoking, but the people inhaling the second hand smoke as well. Not only are you increasing your chances of an early death, but you’re bringing every breathing being around you down as well. Smoking cigarettes is basically an equivalent to slowly killing yourself and others around you. Most people who smoke don’t even realize just how much damage one cigarette can do. They don’t think about the health problems they will have to face down the road, or maybe they just don’t care. Others who smoke but want to quit, just haven’t found a way to successfully stop smoking. Cigarettes can cause far more severe health risks to children than to adults, and if a mother smokes there’s almost no chance that her baby will come out perfectly normal. Some might think that smoking in the car, or in the comfort of their own apartment won’t hurt anyone but they’re wrong. Smoking in enclosed spaces further concentrate the toxins in the room, and the smoke from the cigarettes can easily move from one apartment to another. Most smokers are ignorant to these types of things, and continue to pollute air with deadly chemicals. I understand that it is very difficult to stop smoking once you get addicted, but there are numerous ways in which a smoker could receive help quitting. After finding out the truth behind cigarettes, all smokers should want to quit. Cigarettes should be banned for those who honestly don’t care about the health of the population. People deserve to live smoke free lives, and I think that the government should do something to protect adults and children from SHS. Public policies should be enacted in order to limit smoking, or to put an end to it all together. In this essay, I will back up my allegations by finding articles that legitimize my opinions on cigarettes.
