Professional Knowledge and Abilities Paper

My professional association of choice is American Business Women’s Association. I chose this association because they bring together “diverse occupations and provide opportunities for women to help themselves and others grow personally and professionally through leadership, education, networking support and, national recognition.” (www.abwa.org, n.d)

American Business Women’s Association was founded in 1949 by Hilary a. Bufton, Jr., a Kansas City, Missouri, businessman; ABWA has thousands of members in chapters networks nationwide. The establishment provides business training and making contacts with women of diverse occupations and backgrounds. ABWA had devoted more than half a century to women’s education and provided office skills and career advance training for more than 545,000 members.

I selected this association because of the variety of different races and ages. It’s a mixture of different backgrounds including CEO’s, MBA’s and freelancers who never leave their home office. The association members own their own businesses or seek to become the next entrepreneurs. The women within the association will give enlightening information on how to obtain owning your business as well as attending workshops, or conferences, to help you succeed. They have a continuous educational program to enhance member’s skills. Providing national acknowledgement, the organization is loaded with positive support. It is an important component of career improvement – whether the recognition is on the job or through your professional association. Also you would be able to network with other business women about their successes and failures in running a business. Becoming a member of this association can help me build my foundation as an entrepreneur with business ethics and professional value.
