Plagiarism Assignment

The three websites I used to complete this assignment are:

c.) http://writingcenter.unc.edu

All three websites meet the criteria for “appropriate” as they are primary articles published by credible and scholarly sources, relevant to the topic at hand, and have all been written within a reasonable number of years. The last two websites that I used to complete this assignment were both published between 2010-2014.

a.) Plagiarism can occur when a person portrays one's ideas as their own.

b.) Plagiarism can occur when a person does not cite any external sources they may have used in their research.

c.) Plagiarism can occur when a person claims to have developed an original thought or idea on their own, when in fact, external sources were involved in its development.

d.) Lazy writing can also be considered plagiarism. Lazy writing essentially involves copying and pasting a paragraph and changing words here and there in order to alter it from being a word-for-word paragraph to one that differs slightly.

e.) Using the work of someone else (i.e. friend, colleague, classmate, etc.) and claiming it as your own is another form of plagiarism.

Plagiarism is a problem because it is the result of someone not doing their own work or formulating their own ideas. It does not allow for a student to learn the material, or increase understanding in any way. The student is taking credit for original work and/or thoughts which were in no way original, and the credit belongs to someone else.

CSU has a no-tolerance policy on plagiarism and academic honesty. The penalties for plagiarism at CSU may include a lower or failing grade on the assignment, failing the entire course, and even expulsion.
