Case Study for Whole Foods 2014

Whole Foods is an organic food supermarket, looking to change the way that the world eats food. Their CEO and Founder, John Mackey is leading the company to achieve higher sales and market share while face stiff competition from other companies such as Trader Joes, Sprouts Farmers Market and the Fresh Market just to name a few. While organic food seems to be the new fade in the grocery stores, other non-direct companies have placed their hat in the ring with Whole Foods such as Walmart and Costco and all major supermarkets have an organic section to their selections.

With competition coming from all around it is important that John Mackey and his leadership group, keep Whole Foods in position to maintain and to essentially grow their market share and brand loyalty. A thorough analysis of not just Whole Foods but of other major competitors will help Whole Food’s leadership team to be successful. Once the analysis is complete Whole Food managers must put to together an action plan or business plan to implement the finds from the analysis.

Whole Foods mission statement is “At Whole Foods Market®, "healthy" means a whole lot more. It goes beyond good for you, to also encompass the greater good. Whether you're hungry for better, or simply food-curious, we offer a place for you to shop where value is inseparable from values.” They want to be a company that provides natural and healthy foods to its customers but also to be able to give back to the communities they do business in. Whole Foods business model is unique in that they are selling organic foods at a premium price in a lost cost driven economy. They give their store mangers the autonomy to buy produce from local farmers and sellers that would not have to means or ability to supply to a national retailer.
