2. The reasonable doubt is used in criminal cases because of the serious repercussions of being convicted of a criminal offense. It could include loss of ones liberty or life.

3. A civil case would be heard in federal court if the plaintiff and defendant lived in separate states and the amount disputed exceeds fifty thousand dollars. Then the case will be heard in federal court.

4. Two possible consequences of violating local ordinance is being fined or put on probation. You could also be sentenced to community service, However you cannot be incarcerated for violating local ordinance laws.

5. The booking process in Florida begins with your name and date of birth so that a criminal background check can be performed to determine any previous offenses. The suspect must also be finger printed and photo graphed. Valuables such as jewelry cell phone and money will be confiscated and held for safe keeping until the suspect’s release.

Critical Thinking Questions

1. Suspects who are suspected of terrorism should have the right to a fair trial and be proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt to ensure their freedom isn’t being compromised for something that they did not in fact commit. Especially for a crime with a punishment like terrorism that comes with a harsh sentence.

2. A defendant would be wise to settle out of court if his or her company injured a civilian while they were working. For example, if a FedEx truck was to run over a civilian while delivering packages, it would be wise to agree on a cash settlement out of court or they could get sued for a much larger amount especially if the person injured had to seek medical attention without insurance.
