Many people feel as if athletes make entirely too much money. Then there are the people who do not agree with this. I happen to be one who does. There is no reason a person playing a sport should make as much money as they do. It is unfair to others. Sports fans say that athletes are paid way more than what they are worth as opposed to teachers, lawyers, doctors, etc.

On average a football player’s minimum salary in 2009 was $310,000 as a rookie. A player with 10 or more years in the game can make a minimum of $860,000. Those numbers are ridiculous. Some athletes sign $15 million dollar contracts and that is not including bonuses. Why does a football player need to be paid that much?

Why does an athlete get paid more than a teacher? Teachers are the foundation of our youth. Without them how would athletes know what to do in a game? It is not because of the coach that they know how to play it is because the teacher taught them. A teacher is the one who teaches them how to read, write, read maps or in this case read the plays given by the coach, and even math. These are all of the things required in playing a sport. How can someone playing a game make more than someone saving a life? This does not add up. It is backwards. Without a doctor, when these players are injured there would be no help. People give athletes way too much credit on what they do. They fail to recognize the people who really make a difference to our society.

Doctors do make a large amount of money but the main point is that athletes should not make more.

Another reason why I believe that athletes are paid too much is because we have soldiers fighting for their lives every day and they do not get paid enough for their troubles. Sure, money cannot buy happiness but when you are looking at a athlete making more money...
