A World Without Water is a fascinating article about the inevitable truth that world is running out of its most precious resource. It is a look at the ever-depleting supply of water around the world. Water scarcity is a far more pressing problem than climate change as it receives much less political attention than it should (Clark 2014). As companies tends to make ineffective water-management decisions, water scarcity is starting to hit the balance sheets of multinationals, who have spent more than $84bn managing their water usage in the last couple of years. This articles has various UN Global Compact Principles.

UN Global Compact (2016) states that businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges in accordance with the 7th Principle. As it can be seen, Coca-cola donated £1.2m to World Wildlife Fund conservation group which has dug a winding channel to restore a straight stretch of the River Nar. Furthermore, Nestle and Coca-Cola has joined forces with the International Finance Corporation to form 2030 Water Resources Group. It is a body incorporated to highlight the dimensions of the water scarcity problem and the least costly way of tackling it. 

Not only that, UN Global Compact (2016) states that companies should also undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility in relation to the 8th Principle. In Australia, a subsidiary of BG Group has launched a water monitoring and management system that’ll boost water supplies for farmers and towns by treating the water. Ford has built a $2.5m water treament system in South Africa that is increasing water reuse up to 15%. Google is also using captured rainwater in South Carolina to cool its facility. To conserve and improve its own water supplies, SABMiller has upgraded pipes and other equipment which was affected by deteriorating water quality in Tanzania.
