RE: Family Mediation For David and Angela

Question:

How many sessions will be required for David and Angela to come to an agreement on a Parenting Plan?

Short Answer:

It will take David and Angela at least 4 sessions in order to come to an agreement on a Parenting Plan for their two children.

Statement of facts:

David and Angela have been married for seven years and dated for three years prior to their marriage. They have two children from their marriage ages two and four. David is a Certified Public Accountant and Angela is also an accountant but not a CPA. David works full time at his job and takes on many extra hours during the spring season. Angela only works part time and has since the birth of their oldest child. Money has been causing increasing issues in the marriage. Angela believes that David is having an affair although David continues to deny any chances of an affair.

Discussion:

David and Angela have many issues that need to be resolved prior to them being able to come to an agreement on a Parenting Plan. Angela is struggling with jealousy issues and insecurity issues which can make it difficult to think rationally. In order for them to come to an agreement the issue of money and trust need to be resolved first. To resolve these issues it will take at least two sessions with the family mediator. Once the underlying issues have been resolved then the Parenting Plan can be worked on. It should take at least two sessions to complete the Parenting Plan. The first session will be to come up with a Parenting Plan that everyone will agree one. The second session will be to finalize the plan and make any final changes that are necessary prior to submitting the plan to the courts.
