Decisions in Paradise

This paper will take a closer look at the Decisions in Paradise Business Scenario found on the University of Phoenix student website for the course Critical Thinking: Strategies in decision making. This paper will explore the issues that appear in the business scenario as well as what took place to formulate the problem that faces the employees in this business scenario. Last, this paper will describe the obstacles that must be overcome and critical thinking that must be used to move the organization forward in the business world.

Issues

Some of the issues that the organization is facing on the island of Kava include: natural problems and disasters, internal and external terrorism, and disease. As Alex explains to Nik in the business scenario, the natural problems facing the island of Kava are tremendous. The possibility of flooding, volcano eruptions, hurricanes, fires, and earthquakes presenting themselves at any time is likely. This could mean trouble for the organization because the office in which the organization meets is fragile and already in poor form because of some of these occurrences yet. Terrorism is something that North American is familiar with more than ever, however; not on a home field understanding like much of the rest of the world. Terrorism is something that many companies and governments face daily. Not all countries have the luxury to assume their offices and businesses will be safe. If the organization on Kava cannot withstand potential attacks, then the organization may not have a chance of physical survival. Last, diseases on Kava include the possibility for HIV, AIDS, and the avian flu. If any of these were to strike the employees on Kava, there would be a lack of staff and those who replaced any that fell ill or have passed away, would lack the training they would need to carry on the organization....
