Decisions in Paradise, Part 1

Cox Communications is a company that offers residential and commercial video, data, and telephone products. Expanding our business to the island of Kava is a unique opportunity. Our vision, "To be the best company to work for and do business with, improving the quality of life in the communities we serve" (Cox, 2010). Diversity is built in to the culture of Cox and affects the way Cox does business. Cox achieves diversity goals by "understanding the perspectives, needs and priorities of all people and working to include and represent them in our business" (Cox, 2010). Cox Communications takes the opportunity to serve Kava and the people of Kava very seriously. Cox will discuss an overview of the country of Kava, affecting issues, and what Cox can do to create a positive experience for all involved.

About Kava

Kava is a significant island country located in the South Pacific with over half of its population under the age of 15 years. The country is composed of many ethnic groups: indigenous South Pacific tribes, Asian, African, French, Spanish, and a sizeable number of Americans. Half of the people of Kava practice an indigenous religion and the other half practice Christian, Buddhist, and Islamic religions. The population of Kava speak numerous indigenous languages as well as English, Spanish, and French. Business in Kava is from petroleum, coffee, cocoa, spices, bananas, sugar, tourism, fishing, and natural gas, as well as inexpensive, quality labor.

Issues

Kava is prey to a vast number of natural disasters and has experienced a petroleum spill. Natural disaster threats include: tidal waves, tsunamis, typhoons, hurricanes, tornados, floods, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and fires. Kava has experienced a petroleum spill.
