Assignment: United States - Centric Views Comparison

I gave this appendix to my wife for her to complete. Some of the similarities between our responses were that we both thought each of them had strict moral values and were family oriented. We both see Christians as being non oppressive to women, have flexible moral values, and were peaceful and socially compliant. We also agree that Muslims are oppressive to women, sexist, and socially exclusive.

Our thoughts between the two differ in that I see both groups as being religious fanatics; my wife does not. My wife thinks that both groups make good neighbors, but I placed that descriptor as being only to Christians. I was assuming since there was not a neither category, that these particular Christians were not the type to try and shove their beliefs down your throat or judge you to make themselves feel better. My wife also thought that both groups were well educated, but I put that descriptor under Christians. I see Muslims as not caring about any education other than what their Quran teaches. Most Christians I have known are also close minded, but I think they are more educated in this country.

I believe that both groups being religious fanatics are a true assessment. Any time you consider one’s religion; they are very close minded and refuse to think outside of what their particular religious text teaches. Free thinking is usually not prevalent within religious groups. Christians believe that the Bible is the only source of truth and Muslims believe that the Quran is the only source of truth. Therefore, in their own way they are both fanatics of their own religion.

I also believe that few would argue that Muslims are oppressive to women. If you look at what is happening in the Middle East today you see their society standing up for women’s rights. This is happening because they are...
