Abstract

The article focuses on analyzing the organizational culture of Starbucks Coffee Company ("Starbucks") and how the organization culture is shared among groups by communication. At the end, the article discusses how conflict can be managed to improve group communications.

Organizational Culture Analysis

Formed in 1971 in Seattle, Starbucks Coffee Company is the premier coffee retailer in the world, operating in more than 50 countries. This organization is formed on a corporate value consisting six guiding principles as below:

1. Provide a great work environment and treat each other with respect and dignity.

2. Embrace diversity as an essential component in the way we do business.

3. Apply the highest standards of excellence to the purchasing, roasting and fresh delivery of our coffee.

4. Develop enthusiastically satisfied customers all of the time.

5. Contribute positively to our communities and our environment.

6. Recognize that profitability is essential to our future success.

Additionally, to improve unsuccessful operation results in recent years, Starbucks is making an effort to renew "a culture of entrepreneurialism and innovation that had fallen by the wayside during a mad rush for growth"

Starbucks has successfully implemented some of these above guiding principles and values throughout their operations. The organization operates in a high profit margin and promotes diversity in workplaces. Meanwhile, the organization is actively involved in community service, such as launching Starbucks's Jobs for U.S.A. program, to follow its community guiding principles.
