LAN Operating Systems Scenarios

Read the three scenarios below and answer the questions that follow each scenario.

1. You are the network administrator for a new company that has 10 users and that plans to add 5 more users within a year. The files need to be accessed by all 10 users, and each user must have different security rights. What kind of network would you install? How would the pieces and components of this network relate to each other? Define each component.

QC's Answer: I would probably use a physical star topology to connect ten individual computers to either a central switch or hub. This would allow each of the ten users to connect to the Internet and access the needed information. Each user would be able to access the Internet and needed information either from the computer assigned to him or her, or from any one of the ten computers. If each user were allowed to use any one of the ten computers, I would create multiple user accounts (up to ten) on each of the ten computers. This would allow each user to access the Internet, and to search for and store information, under his or her own account. I would also create shared folders and files so that each of the ten users could access the information in the shared files at any given time. Each time a user logged in to his or her account with his or her username and password, his or her information would be verified by the server. Once verified, he or she would gain access to his or her account and to the Internet. Each time the user input a request for information via his or her work station, the requested information would be sent to the server. Which would then process the request and deliever the requested information to the specific computer that requested it. A switch or hub that has multiple ports should be used so that additional computers can be added later if needed.
