Competencies Paper

Christine Robertson

Lake Forest Graduate School of Management

How am I going to leverage my strengths? This is one of the questions I pondered, early on a Sunday morning as I began this paper. I can lead and work in a team. My many years of teamwork are my foundation. I can interact confidently with others at all levels of the organization. At our conference last week, I listened and formulated ideas with others from our installers to the CEO. Much of the IT world is about being innovative. We are constantly challenging ourselves to improve on what we are doing. I then asked myself, which of the ten areas can I improve on? I want to know what drives the organization and formulate judgments accordingly, as this will help me improve my decision making abilities. I need to be able to think strategically. I believe in this program we can work together to achieve the same goal. Just as we saw with the teambuilding exercise at our orientation, once the team came together many things happened. The team came up with great ideas, vetted them, and tossed out what didn’t work, then used and improved what did work to complete the exercise in the best possible way.
