Personal Responsibility

Marriage, children, homeownership, and a career at a Fortune 500 company are signs of success that most can agree on. This success did not come together without hard work, integrity, and most of all personal responsibility. There are no shortcuts in life and obtaining a college degree is essential to leading a successful career and rewarding life. To see success in college, we must embrace and understand the power of personal responsibility. The confidence and independence it provides will enable students to implement those skills into a plan that will give us the ability to succeed in college.

Achieving college success one must understand what personal responsibility is. It is holding ourselves accountable for the decisions that we make. We are constantly making choices every day that affect the outcome of our lives. Whether the decisions are good or bad, in the end, we are responsible for them. Personal responsibility will differ based on the upbringing, social, and cultural influences; however, what they will find in common is those that take proper ownership of their personal responsibility tend to be more successful. Personal responsibility starts with the individual person the minute one wake’s up. The decisions that we make today and every day can make a positive or negative impression to their personal lives, families, and careers. When the day comes to an end, we should measure how we made a difference in those three important aspects of life and mentally prepare to make adjustments for the next day. Understanding this core principal is the foundation one needs to succeed in college and in life.

At the university level, it is truly up to the students to educate themselves and obtain their college degree. We are no longer in high school where the teachers will hold students accountable. In college the student is responsible...
