Best Practices Manual for Supervisors

As a supervisor at any company you are responsible for the actions, moral, and productivity of your team. The leadership style of each supervisor creates the environment for their team, which is why when there are any issues within their area of responsibility, the supervisor must look at themselves first. Each employee is different and has a different type of motivation. By following best practices as a supervisor you can be fair, firm, and consistent to all of your team members.

Demonstrating Communication Skills

As you have heard in the past, “communication is the key to success”. This is not just a cliché phrase because communication is essential to making sure everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goals. Communication is more than making sure you have informed every one of the plans or direction of the team. You must also make sure everyone understands what you have communicated. If your company has developed a new process it is your responsibility as a supervisor to communicate the new process and make sure your team members completely understand how the new process works. By just communicating the new process to your team you are not showing good communication skills, which is not fair to your team members. You must become an expert at the new process then show each of your team members the new process. After showing them the new process you can have them show you they understand the new process.
