If I were to take a job in the Human Service field, I would choose to be a Family Intervention Specialist or to work for the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT). Of course, I like to think that all jobs in the Human Service field are useful jobs, recommended because they all help people. Since I have to choose a job that I would prefer to do myself, I would first of all not want to work closely with people in my ideal job. For this reason, I'll tell you about ASNT, which is a huge technical society that is designed only to advance nondestructive testing. This society wants good education, sound research, and for members and other professionals to exchange information with each other. I like working with objects, and I'd like to test things in order to tell if they are safe and effective. I am reminded of time spent in a chemistry lab, where everything is done with a hands-on approach as properties are tested. I know that, with this job, I could help people from behind-the-scenes instead of directly. Also, as a first job in the Human Services sector, I do not think that I would be entirely comfortable working with people right away. I would rather gain more education and information before I took the job of Family Intervention Specialist, since I would work with families, people, and their real personal issues. A job like this is far more stressful – you might feel like your counseling is responsible for this family's future. I would recommend either of these jobs to anyone who asked me – both of them are good work to do. A recommendation should rely on what each person is capable of doing. With the prior information in mind, I would ask the possible employee about their capabilities and then go on from their information.
