The change management process is basically a set of steps and activities than an individual or an organization interested in change management would follow in order to make apply a change management process into one of their projects. According to Prosci’s research, the most common and effective applied change is done in the following three phases.

• Phase 1 – Preparing for Change

• Phase 2 – Managing Change

• Phase 3 – Reinforcing change

The phase of preparing for change is where the organization defines its change management strategy, builds and prepares a change management team, and develops their sponsorship model. The second phase, managing change, is where the development of the change management plans begin, and actions are made on how to implement the plans, and to implement them. The third phase is about collecting and analyzing their feedback from many resources as possible, identifying all the gaps while managing resistance, and finally implementing corrective actions and celebrating their success.

Change management is a necessary component to all businesses with regards to their organizational performance improvements. It is just as important as other studies and theories like total quality management, business process re-engineering, six sigma etc.
