Has political correctness gone too far?

The purpose of the introduction of political correctness was to abolish condescending, offensive and any divisive content in things such as books/ movies and replace them with more positive and less offending terms. Although offensive and demeaning references are wrong the censorship and deletion of such phrases is taking it a step too far! Efforts to create a politically correct society have led to a social decline which appears to be continuously growing worse with generations especially in areas such as education and our right to freedom of speech. There was once a time where a person could state their opinion and regardless of if people agreed with it, it would still be acknowledged and considered.

However, now due to the fact that political correctness attempts to abolish any condescending or offensive remarks; people are unable to voice their opinion in case it is seen as offensive or unacceptable in society. In fact, the mind-set of the attitudes towards political correctness has even influenced artistic expression; imagine being so sensitive about that the art we create is determined by the people who are usually offended this would mean that old artist who previously were free to express their inner emotions without the fear of offending anyone will now be censored and new artists would be restricted due to the new definitions of what would be deemed acceptable.

An example of political correctness being taken to far is the influence it has on religion, a school in Seattle passed out what they called “Spring Spheres” instead of “Easter Eggs” in case using this name would offend anyone, however personally I think just using their given name which is an Easter egg wouldn’t actually offend anyone and if anyone was to be offended then they’re clearly over sensitive.
