Introduction

Team Leadership is important to organizations and work teams because it provides an opportunity for a team with unique skills who work independently, while seeking the same opportunities to reach the primary goals. Today, leadership context has evolved over the past few years due to the evolution of technology and globalization. However the foundation of leadership is endless. Northouses mentions that leadership in organizational work teams has become one of the most popular and fastest areas of leadership theory and research (Northouse, 2012). Leaders in organization must understand how critical it is to know the roles of their leadership in the work and team environment. This knowledge will help reduce or eliminate mistakes and failures. Northouse discusses that it is imperative that the leader understands the role of the leadership within teams to ensure that there is no potential for failure (Northouse, 2012). In essence, I have learned that leadership is not just for higher level leadership or management positions. It’s for anyone who desires to inspire and motivate, a parent, coach, pastor, student, even children who have been inspired to motivate others. Kouzes & Posner states that leadership is about relationships, credibility and about what you do (Kouzes , J. M., & Posner, B. Z. 2007).. In the Northhouse text, team leadership model provides leadership with the ability to control team effectiveness (Northouse, p.291, 2012). If the leader is effective from the very beginning by focusing on his mental model of the situation at hand, than the leader will have a clear and concise picture of a plan of approach that can provide the flexibility to meet the team’s needs.
