4. Think of an important goal you set in the past and explain how you determined its importance and what you did in a step-by-step manner to achieve it. Finally, describe the outcome.

The most important goal I have set for myself is to make a better life for my children. I have worked at dead-end; minimum wage jobs most of my life. I have struggled to the fullest as a single mother to provide what is necessary in life for my two sons. I have always seemed to make things happen, but I had gotten to the point of complete mental exhaustion and was almost to the point of giving up. That is when I decided to begin going to college to further my education; and in return, hopefully start a career that will help me provide a better future for my children.

The first step I took to achieve this goal was getting my mind set to believe in myself and encouraged myself to know that I can do this, if not for me, then for my boys. I looked into which school would be best for me to begin this journey of knowledge and applied here at Temple College. The next steps I have taken were the ones of showing up every day for class, paying attention, working hard, and making the grades.

The outcome of this goal is the fact of being in my sixth and finally semester at Temple College and will be receiving my first college degree in May. But, this is only the beginning of my desire to make life better. I plan to go through with my Masters to become a CPA and own my own business in the future.

Since I have started my path of getting a better education, I have had a few people in my family make me feel as if they don’t believe I can do it. My two biggest obstacles are my mother and my older sister.
