Assignment 1, Week 3

“Early Childhood”

The physical gross motor skills with balance, running, jumping, hopping, skipping. The fine motor skills and self- help developmental progression of drawing:

1-2 years- scribbling

3 years- scribbling is more practical

3-4 years form letters and words and can use grips

3-4 years can represent human images

This is also a time of tremendous change in the body, a physical change. A childs body changes proportion and they start to look more like young adults. This is also the age they begin to shed their

“baby fat”, and the body becomes more straighter and muscles stronger. Children in this age group can expectidly grow apporximately 2-3” in height a year. Which is supported by a healthy lifestyle with sleep and exercise.

Children in early childhood stage also become self-conscious of their bodies. They are focused on being attractive and popularity. The motor skills also develop quicker in females rather than males. Which is perfectly normal for children to master these areas at different speeds in life, ages and in different sequences. The child will continue to advance their skills by observing and interacting with the world around them.

During it makes huge leaps on they process in their cognitive development in how they process, store and use information. This stage can be very tricky. All humans from infants to elderly rely on the theories of Piaget's stages of cognitive development and Erikson's psychosocial stages. It gives along with us a way to understand and measure a child's mental ability along with social development and progression.

They have built skills learned and mastered during the sensorimotor stage. In young children they play and use imagination filled with fantasy. As it grows it now turns to imagination with plots involving characters and scenerios. Which is a big part of brain development. Social emotional stage plays a larger role in this development.
