Abstract

Leadership is the process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task. Leadership is ultimately about creating a way for people to contribute to making something extraordinary happen. Leadership needs to be distinguished from posturing. Leadership is not the ability to influence others to do something they are not committed to, but rather to nurture a culture that motivates and even excites individuals to do what is required for the benefit of all. It is not carrying others to the end, but setting the surrounding for developing qualities in them to so they may carry each other. Leadership plays a significant role in every aspect of our lives. Leaders distinguished by their compassion for others, his or her effective written and verbal communication skills, and the desire to continually to improve the organization. An effective leader is very influential and possesses the ability to get follower to willing follow. Every organization needs leaders at every level. An effective leader must be able to form units within the organization that are goal-oriented and successful. A leader’s effectiveness is only as valuable as the quality of work that his or her followers produce. By developing an individualized leadership style a leader is better equipped to lead their organization as well as his or her followers.

There are numerous ways to convert a leader’s ideas, preparations, communication, or creative actions that will ultimately impact the individuals within team or group because of differences in standards and beliefs that are detrimental in achieving goals. I have identified the elements that would be beneficial in any clerical department under the direction of an effective leader. I have addressed some strengths, weaknesses, and leadership style as well as theories that impact organizations.
