Management has been around for years upon years. Trends have developed through the works of many individuals, who paved the way for modern society to give us our current system of management. The contributions by these individuals left a big mark on mankind on how they oversee things. Management has been around since the beginning of time; proof of this exists within all the wonderful structures that were constructed throughout the centuries. The current trends in management come off these practices throughout history whether it would be the formation of the Egyptian Pyramids or the Taj Majal. Planning, organizing and controlling were essential to design and construct these massive structures giving the managers of today a good taste of the origins of management. Many individuals throughout history contributed and influenced the current trends in management today.

Adam Smith is one of the most recognized contributors to management in the modern world and society with his influential theories. Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations ended up shaping modern capitalism and modern economics. Adam Smith truly believed that raw labor was not the most efficient way of doing things but instead on how it is managed. Adam Smith believed in a division of labor to improve efficiency in the workplace. Smith began to explain about specialization and how it improved dexterity. Specialization most often improves dexterity and reduces the time lost shifting from an operation to another; specialization also stimulates invention, since individual workers use labor-saving techniques and machines for operations in which they are familiar with (Blatt, 2003). Smith gives us the current trend of specialization in the field of management that gives companies a better efficiency rate when the individual laborers specialize and work in what they are most familiar with.
