In the world of business today, communication may move at a rapid pace. The click of a mouse and an e-mail has been sent company-wide, possibly across the world. Employees may access e-mails from smart phones such as a blackberry or iPhone. The employees of Washoe County are no different. The county thrives with communication through e-mails and using the latest of this e-mail technology trend to reach each employee from various emergency scenarios to holiday messages and budgetary agenda’s.

Business Communications in Washoe County

At the Washoe County Public Defender’s Office, employees focus on communicating through e-mails to plan for daily tasks and any issues that may arise causing a deadline with a court. Attorney’s will e-mail documents for secretaries to type up and file with the specified courts. Today attorney’s e-file all documents so once an e-mail is sent to the secretary the assigned attorney may not see that document again until after it’s filed. The secretary may file a document without having the attorney actually physically sign the document. A special signature exists in a motion or document and on the certificate of service page the secretary signs to show proof of service to the opposing party.

The secretary, once finished with the task of typing the document, submits to the court for filing. The court clerks receive an e-mail with the filing request and in turn marks the document e-filed, the date and posts the document back to the court’s website called e-flex. The secretary receives an e-mail when the filing is completed, prints out a copy and places in the file stamped copy into the file.
