Research question:

What effect does a person’s height have on their heart rate during light jogging for 5 minutes?

Hypothesis:

As the height of a person increases, I believe their heart rate will also increase due to the body size been bigger therefore the heart will have to pump blood more frequently in order for it reach all the muscles.

Independent variables:

I will be changing the height of each person and measuring the height with a meter ruler.

Dependent variable:

I will be measuring the heart rate of a person’s heart after 5 minutes of jogging on the spot with a heart monitor.

Control variables:

I will be controlling the temperature of the environment the participant will be jogging in because heat could increase the heart rate, in order to keep this the same each person will be jogging in the same room.

I will also be measuring each person’s heart rate precisely after 5 minutes because if I measure earlier or later the muscles in the heart wouldn’t have been contracting the same amount of time as other people. In order to keep the time the same I will be measuring the time with a stopwatch.

I will also make sure each person is wearing minimal clothing as extra clothing could insulate heat and therefore change the temperature of the person. And each person will be wearing suitable running shoes because unsuitable shoes could affect the rate of jogging and therefore have a difference in measuring the heart rate.

Apparatus list:

-2x Meter ruler -1x Stopwatch - 1x heart monitor

Method:

1) Gather participates.

2) Record their stable heart rate with heart monitor after resting for 5 minutes.

3) Then measure their height with meter ruler, in order to be more accurate with measuring tape 2 meter rulers together on a wall.

4) Get participate to do light jogging on the spot for 5 minutes. Record time with stopwatch.

5) After 5 minutes record the person’s...
