When interviewing someone for a position it is important to know the type of questions that can be asked and those that should never be brought up. The following will be a list of those that can be used when interviewing someone for a Front Desk Agent position or guest service position at a major hotel.

1. Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult guest and how did you handle it?

2. What type of leadership skills have you developed in your previous jobs?

3. If selected to join the team, are you able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays?

4. How do you feel working in a team setting?

5. Why did you leave your previous job?

6. Why do you want to work at XYZ Hotel?

7. I see on your resume you have experience in food and beverage, why do you want to work front desk?

8. If offered the job when will you be able to begin training?

9. Are you comfortable working in a company that prides itself on its diversity?

10. Explain to me a time when you felt absolutely amazing because of something you did.

11. Are you confident in your work?

12. What skills can you bring to the team?

This list of twelve questions are questions that can be used for someone applying at a hotel. Below are questions you never want coming out of your mouth or hear at an interview:

1. I see you wearing that cap thing… can you work on the Sabbath?

2. Did you eat a big lunch or should we pencil you in for maternity leave if we hire you?

3. Are you gay?

The above three questions touch basically on every aspect that an interviewer does not want to say; Religion, sexual preference, and discrimination. Asking someone their sexual orientation does not help them in their performance or would make them feel comfortable during an interview thus it should not be asked.
