Global Warming: Fact or Fiction

The environment of the world is increasing in both temperature and air and this warming can cause major political, social and economic impacts, especially when ice caps melt and temperature changes start to disrupt food supplies and crops. Greenhouse gasses like nitrous oxide and methane are being released into the Earth’s atmosphere because of human pollution activity such as burning certain fuels for the rationale of new technologies or energy utilization (Hamburg, 2011). Basically the hypothesis states that the sun’s rays are getting trapped in the atmosphere and because there is nowhere for the heat to go, it starts to heat the planet.

The impacts of global warming

Global warming has caused the surface temperature of the Earth to rise and become the hottest over the last 400 years according to the National Geographic and their climate studies (National Geographic News, 2007). This rise in temperature across the globe, measures about 1ºC calculated over a century (Leggett, 2012) and the accumulated energy from those changes are what the Earth is experiencing in terms of weather, and that is what is the scariest and making the biggest impact.

The environment and sensitive ecosystems can also be disrupted. There will be die-out of certain species because of them not being able to adapt and procreate (Linhart, 2007). The water temperature being higher also brings forth more energy giving life to tropical storms making these storms more powerful and destructive for humans as well as animals. There will be droughts because of the evaporation of the ground water due to the higher temperatures which can lead...
