Disciplining Children without Spanking

Long time ago, people used to think that one effective way of disciplining children was by spanking them. Now days, thanks to the advancement on the behavioral sciences it is proof that it was or is the least effective way of grooming children. There are so many techniques to teach children how to learn to behave properly, some are expensive like sending the children to military school and the more affordable, which is teaching the children the right things at home. The affordable techniques include; one parent should be a role model at home; the second one is to use punishment techniques that are effective and not ineffective, and the third one is to teach them good values.

Children believe that their parents are the best people in the world until they show them otherwise. That is the reason why parents are the first figures children tends to imitate. Parent should take advantage of this opportunity to teach their kids the difference between right and wrong. Since children tend to imitate what parents do not do, nor what they say. It is good when parents talk with their kids about their beliefs, about what they expect of them and most important is for set a good example so kids can follow them later.

Punishment does not have to be harsh like physical or verbally, instead trying something like withholding rewards or penalties can be more effective when discipline kids. Withholding rewards means parents not giving a reward that was previously promised, such as not giving a child dessert because he behaved badly. Penalty punishment means, for example, giving the children time-outs, losing an allowance or being grounded. Withholding reward and penalty punishment can be used either as effective discipline methods or as punishment - depending on how parents administer them.
