A.) What can it tell you?

A urinalysis can tell you if you have anything wrong with you from a wide range of diseases. Diabetes, kidney disease, and urinary tract infections are frequently detected through the urinalysis test. Sometimes the test can even help detect disorders that have not yet had the chance to manifest as any symptoms at all.

B.) What results are normal?

Normal results will indicate you have no disorder detectable by the urinalysis test. They include: normal color, not cloudy, normal pH, less than 130mg of glucose, no blood, no nitrates, less than 150mg protein, no bacteria, no yeast etc.

C.) What are some abnormalities that a urinalysis might show?

Results that indicate you may have a disorder include: strange color, cloudiness, abnormal pH, higher than 130mg of glucose, blood present in the urine, nitrates, higher than 150mg protein, bacteria, yeast, etc.

D.) What is the treatment for these abnormalities?

Treatment for these conditions is based upon the specific abnormality. Different abnormalities will require different treatments. Certain results, such as too dark in color, will result in a physician’s order to drink lots of water and maintain a healthy diet. Other, more direct results, such as blood in the urine, may result in the patient undergoing treatment for a disease such as cancer, kidney stones, or a urinary tract infection.
