The 3 A’s of Work Ethics: Attendance, Appearance, and Attitude

Attendance is important in many day to day situations. Being at the correct place at the proper time is something that you learn as a student and it becomes a very important trait once you start working. If a student is late for class or misses class all together then they miss the information that was taught during that period of time. This also applies to the work force because once an employee is late or misses work then the company loses money, other employees become stressed, and overall employee morale is lowered.

Attendance not only includes being where you are supposed to be when you are supposed to be there but also being on time. We have all heard the saying “You’re on time if your 15 minutes early and late if you’re on time”. This saying is very correct. When we decide to go to a movie when it is first released we don’t get there right as the movie is starting or we won’t be able to get any tickets or seats, so why show up to work or class late?

There are always times where being late or absent is inevitable, but there are things that you need to do. If you are going to be late or absent to work or to class it is always best to call ahead and inform someone who is in charge. If you miss work or school because you are sick make sure that you get a doctor’s excuse and return to work as soon as you are able. Keeping open communication between you and your employer or professor about your attendance or any issue you may have is the responsible thing to do and will save not only you, but everyone in your class or at your job, time and money.

Appearance is also a very important work ethic. Regardless of what your job it is important to make sure that you are keeping up with your hygiene, wearing the appropriate outfit, being polite, and making sure you are using correct grammar.
