1) Define and explain the following terms as they apply to manufacturing systems and enterprises:

* Global supply chain management (75 words maximum)

Global SCM is the management of a network of interconnected businesses involved in the ultimate provision of product and service packages required by end customers. These business functions are coordinated to improve the long-term performance and all activities involved in sourcing, conversion, and logistics are planned and managed efficiently.

* Six sigma strategy (75 words maximum)

Small groups in a business work to take specific steps at reducing and removing defects and errors in the quality of products or services produced by the business. Six Sigma represents the goal at having six standard deviations between the mean and nearest specification limit. Metrics, methodology, and philosophy are the 3 levels six sigma can be approached.

* 5S methodology (75 words maximum)

5S is a visually-oriented system of cleanliness, organization, and arrangement designed to facilitate greater productivity, safety, and quality. The 5S phrases are sort, straighten, shine, standardize, and sustain. All of these are focused on organization, efficiency, self-discipline, and teamwork for the enterprise’s common goal at hand.
