Discuss the relationship between the nation-state, supranational organization and globalization.

Nation-state, supranational organization and globalization are three correlated concepts. Virtual state said, the state no longer significantly entails globalization, however the virtual organization played major role entailing globalization. However, in my opinion, supranational organization and nation-state can facilitate globalization. Also, globalization drives establishment of supranational organization. Furthermore, the establishment of supranational organization will be taken by different individual nation-states.

Nation-state is a nation with a state wrapped around it. That is, it is a nation with its own state, a state in which there is no significant group that is not part of the nation (Glassner, 1993).

1. Nation-state is seeking for competitive advantages

* The nation-state changes the economic policy suitable to economic openness.

* Gov will figure out the priority and importance factor for country: eg. Increase export volume, import more necessary resources for country demand.

* By the way, gov may corporate with other nation-state => sign free trade agreements to facilitate trade in goods and services: eg. WTO, ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA), G-3 Free Trade Agreement...

* Nation-state may create the alliance to do some project together

* The perception of vulnerability of individual state will entail international cooperation such as they propose to create some international institution become supranational organization => increase bargain power in the global economic environment => create more free trade area

* New markets (EC and AEC) will become more common

* Individual nation-state (NS) need to adjust their policies to suitable ones of supranational organization. Eg: remove trade barriers whereas tariffs or non-tariffs.
